Dear SGT Volkin, I recently purchased your book, and am very impressed with the
amount of info inside. I am glad I bought i t . I am currently talking with a National
Guard recruiter, and am hoping to go to basic next spring. I am sure I will know
everything you recommend before I get there.

Hello Michael: Just a quick note of appreciation from one Canadian for The Ultimate
Basic Training Guidebook. I am currently undergoing selection for Army Reserve Officer
with the Canadian Armed Forces here in Nova Scotia. I am 40 yrs old and in what
I consider to be great shape. The exercise program you have proposed is almost blow-for-blow
(or pushup-for-pushup) the same as the Canadian Army selection, and believe me it
IS helping a great deal! I've already passed my selection exams, selection boards,
security checks, and the physical, and fitness tests, and am simply awaiting some
advanced medical info from a specialist... then its off to what we call the BMQ,
or Basic Military Qualification training in January at our local reserve base.
Your
book has given me added confidence going into this phase of recruitment, and, you
are right, you can only learn so much from talking to others, the basics of basic
training need to be studied, and practiced prior to walking through those gates
and donning the fatigues, boots, and beret. Quite frankly, your book should be required
reading even before a potential recruit takes their final interview, this way all
North American Military bodies would save a ton of money, recruiter, and instructor
hours on just getting wash-outs to the point where they realize this isn't for them.
In my case, your book re-enforced what I have known since I graduated from college
way back in '88. Keep up the good work, the military needs more people out there
to give them voice!
-David W (Novia Scotia)
